Villarreal CF continue their incredible run in El Madrigal. This time, Marcelino García Toral’s charges saw off Granada CF 2-0 on matchday 22 of the Liga BBVA to pick up their sixth successive victory at home.
The first half was a frenetic affair in El Madrigal without many let ups. The Yellows made their intentions clear with a Moi Gómez lop, but Emanuel Insúa was able to prevent it from going in on the goal line. Shortly after that, it was goalkeeper Oier Olazábal’s turn to sure things up for Granada, getting his fingertips to a Gerard Moreno diagonal shot. Although the Andalusians started getting into the game and even began to threaten in the final third of the pitch, Mateo Musacchio put the home side in front before the break.
Villarreal came out of the traps flying in the second half, coming close to a second goal with a Manu Trigueros effort but once again Oier was able to deny the home team. While the Yellows looked like scoring another, Granada did not throw in the towel and fought hard for an equaliser right until the end. Jhon Córdoba had a golden opportunity to level matters with a shot that came off the woodwork, but Gerard Moreno made it 2-0 by finishing off a counter-attack just before the final whistle.
