Vietto saves the day for Villarreal

Villarreal CF got back to winning ways in Liga BBVA with a 1-0 win over SD Eibar in matchday 24. Luciano Vietto’s 11th goal of the season was enough to seal the victory. 

The home side enjoyed a good first half, taking control of the ball. Gerard Moreno and Moi Gómez had the best chances, however could not hit the back of the net. Eibar, meanwhile, looked to put pressure on Sergio Asenjo’s goal, however Arruabarrena fired over from their best chance.

The second half was less intense, and therefore Marcelino García Toral decided to throw on his main attacking threat in Luciano Vietto, and the Argentine scored soon after coming on, albeit with a little help from goalkeeper Xabi Irureta. The stopper managed to redeem himself with a stunning save shortly after, which gave life to his side, however they were unable to get the equaliser that they sought. Eibar are now five without a win, while Villarreal move to within two points of Sevilla in fifth.
