Vietto gives Villarreal lift off

Villarreal CF continued their fine form thanks to a 3-0 win over Deportivo. The side from Castellón have now won their last five games in Liga BBVA and finish 2014 in fifth place, just one point off the Champions League spots.
The game’s first goal came after 10 minutes. The play began with a quick turnover of possession in the middle of the park, with Denis Cheryshev forcing a save from Fabricio before Jonathan dos Santos slammed home the rebound to score his first goal for the Yellows.
Deportivo responded well, however they were unable to truly test Sergio Asenjo. After 20 minutes Luciano Vietto ran through on goal, however Fabricio this time was equal to the Argentine’s effort.
After the restart, the Galician side had a double chance in the 65th minute, firstly with an Álex Bergantiños effort that went out for a corner, from which Sidnei found the arms of Asenjo when well placed. Villarreal continued to dominate, and Vietto shone. The former Rácing man scored twice in five minutes to give his side breathing space and ensure a fine end  to the year.
