Elche CF and Valencia CF meet at the Estadio Martínez Valero to get matchday 28 of the Liga BBVA up and running. Last season, the hosts saw off Valencia 2-1 in the first top-flight meeting between the sides at the stadium since los ilicitanos’ return to the division. The visitors want to protect third place having moved into the position last week, while los franjiverdes are desperate to climb away from the drop zone.
Team news
Home coach Fran Escribá will be without Adrián through suspension, and the injured Aarón Ñíguez and Sergio Pelegrín. Nuno Espírito Santo, meanwhile, has all his squad available for the clash with the exception of Enzo Pérez, who picked up an injury in the team’s last training session.
Views from the dugout
Escribá is aware that this game is particularly important, and said in his pre-match press conference: "The home stretch is coming into view now and every game that’s left is very significant. We’re convinced that we’re going to continue in the same vein as recent weeks and we’re going to look for the win from the off". Nuno commented that Elche "are difficult opponents" for Valencia, but are an outfit they know and "have done our homework on".
