The Basque derby between Real Sociedad and Athletic Club ended in a 1-1 draw on matchday 15 of the Liga BBVA. David Moyes's goal came at the start of the first half and Óscar De Marcos levelled the match in the 60th minute.
On three minutes the Mexican Carlos Vela put Real Socidedad ahead with a headed shot. It was a goal that lifted the home side’s spirits and they dominated the first half, with opportunities to score a second. One of those chances fell to Iñigo Martínez, but the centre back’s header went wide. Ernesto Valverde's men threatened Eñaut Zubikarai's goal. Aritz Aduriz in particular had the best chances for Athletic to equalise.
The first few minutes of the second half took place in Real’s area, with Iker Muniain hitting a good shot that went over the crossbar. The Bilbao side's persistence paid off in the 60th minute when Óscar de Marcos, going forward from the second line, levelled the score with a nice volley.
Ten minutes from the end, Aymeric Laporte was shown a second yellow card, and with numerical superiority Real threw themselves at Gorka Iraizoz's goal. Sergio Canales came close to scoring the winning goal from a free kick, but his shot hit the crossbar. It was once again the Cantabrian player who had the last chance of the game, but his strike was stopped by the Rojiblanco goalkeeper.
