FC Barcelona and Real Madrid meet each other in week 28 in the Liga BBVA in what promises to be one of the most exciting games of the season. Barcelona go into the match one point clear of their rivals and will be keen to keep hold of top spot and pick up what would be a fourth consecutive victory.

Real Madrid, meanwhile, go into the game in confident mood after beating Levante UD 2-0 last week, recovering the positive mood they had lost in recent outings. Carlo Ancelotti’s side are also well aware that a victory would see them reclaim top spot in the Liga BBVA.

Team news

Luis Enrique welcomes back Sergio Busquets for the visit of his team’s eternal rivals but will be without the injured defender Thomas Vermaelen. Meanwhile, Los Blancos travel to Camp Nou without Sami Khedira, Fábio Coentrão and James Rodríguez.

Luis Enrique showed caution ahead of the game but also said he had every confidence in his team. "They are the eternal rivals and they are the team that is closest to us in the league table. We have a great opportunity to put further distance between us and them. We’ll need to be at our best, to be solid in defence and effective in attack."

His opposite number Carlo Ancelotti was clear about the objective of the match. "Barcelona are enjoying a better run of form than us but leaving that aside, this is a difficult game for both of us. We have a lot of confidence ahead of this game because it’s a new opportunity for us. If we win we will be top of the Liga BBVA once again."
