RCD Espanyol claimed victory over Málaga CF in an encounter in which the visitors were made to work right to the end to come away triumphant from La Rosaleda. Álvaro González, with a first-half header, and Sergio García in injury time were the goalscorers, with Kiko Casillas saving a penalty in a great display.

After fifteen minutes, Nourredine Amrabat served up a warning of the threat posed by the home attack with a right-footed effort that drew an excellent save from Casilla. Sergio González's men were also active going forward, with Sergio García particularly involved throughout the match. Not long before half time, Salva Sevilla delivered a free-kick that Álvaro González headed brilliantly into the top corner, with Carlos Kameni unable to keep it out.

Málaga came out for the second half with more intensity and went all out in search of a goal to level the scores. They produced constant attacks on the opposition area as Espanyol looked to increase their lead playing on the break. With less than ten minutes remaining, Amrabat had a golden opportunity to equalise from the spot, but Casilla again rescued his side in what was his 100th game in the Liga BBVA. In injury time, Sergio García settled the match with a goal on the counter-attack. With this victory, Espanyol end a run of two matchdays without picking up points.
