MIÉ 27.08.2025

We’re now two matchdays in to the new LALIGA EA SPORTS season and there are several storylines worth discussing. Below, we take a look at some of the most interesting from the past week.

Villareal CF start the season on fire

It has been an excellent start to the 2025/26 LALIGA EA SPORTS campaign for Villarreal CF, who followed up their 2-0 Matchday 1 victory over Real Oviedo with a 5-0 thrashing of Girona FC. Tajon Buchanan, who completed a permanent move to the club in the summer, scored a hat-trick.

Real Betis win their first game at La Cartuja

With work being carried out on the Estadio Benito Villamarín, Real Betis are temporarily playing their home games at the Estadio de La Cartuja. They had their first game there on Friday night and celebrated a 1-0 victory, with Giovani Lo Celso scoring the only goal of the game against Deportivo Alavés.

FC Barcelona produce their first comeback of the season

After producing several comeback victories last season, FC Barcelona have already achieved one this campaign. Despite falling 2-0 behind away at Levante UD on Saturday night, Hansi Flick’s side never gave up and ultimately won 3-2 courtesy of a stoppage time winner.

Real Madrid enjoy a comfortable start to the season

For Real Madrid, they also have two wins from two to start the season. After defeating CA Osasuna 1-0, they followed that up with a 3-0 away victory over Real Oviedo on Sunday night. Kylian Mbappé already has three goals to his name, and is a serious candidate to retain the Pichichi Trophy.

Atlético de Madrid drop more points

Atlético de Madrid have not had an enjoyable start to the season. Los Colchoneros have just one point from their first two matches. After their defeat at RCD Espanyol, Atleti could only muster a 1-1 draw at home to a solid Elche CF side in Matchday 2.

Budimir and CA Osasuna are up and running

CA Osasuna have secured their first win of the season, a 1-0 victory against Valencia CF, thanks to an Ante Budimir goal. After scoring 21 league goals last season, the third-most in the division, the Croatian striker is up and running this term.

Renato Veiga joins Villarreal CF

The transfer market is still open and clubs continue to strengthen their squads before the window shuts. Villarreal CF have secured a significant signing, bringing in Portugal international Renato Veiga. The 22-year-old centre-back has arrived from Chelsea and already made his debut in their big victory over Girona FC.

Familiar faces return to LALIGA EA SPORTS’ attacking lines

Other clubs are also bringing in reinforcements, many of them familiar faces and many of them strikers. For example, Elche CF have signed former Sevilla FC and Real Sociedad striker André Silva, while Deportivo Alavés have acquired former Elche CF and Granada CF centre-forward Lucas Boyé.

Rayo Vallecano take a step towards the Conference League’s league phase

Rayo Vallecano played their first European match in over 20 years on Thursday, winning 1-0 against Belarusian side Neman Grodno in the Conference League play-off round. With the second leg to come in Madrid, the LALIGA EA SPORTS team have taken a big step towards qualification for the league phase of this year’s Conference League.

RC Celta and Real Betis prepare for midweek action

There is a midweek fixture coming up in LALIGA EA SPORTS this week, with RC Celta and Real Betis facing off on Wednesday night. This fixture forms part of Matchday 6, but has been brought forward due to these two clubs’ participation in this season’s Europa League. That means there is more top-flight action just around the corner.
