The clash between RCD Espanyol and Elche CF in the Power8 Stadium will draw matchday twenty-nine in the Liga BBVA to a close. A win for the home team would be a massive result towards securing safety, with the coach, Sergio González, stating that this encounter could act as the “turning point” in Espanyol’s season. Meanwhile, three points for Elche would see them capitalising on the defeats suffered by their direct rivals over the weekend’s action.
Team news
Álvaro González and Rubén Duarte will not feature in this game. Sergio González has decided to rest the young Almería native following his involvement in both of the Spanish Under-21 side’s recent matches. Meanwhile, Álvaro will miss this match due to a suspension. The visitors will be travelling without the injured Sergio Pelegrín, while Aaron Ñíguez makes his way back into the squad.
Views from the dugouts
"This is not a crucial game, but it could act as a turning point. My players are well aware of how important this fixture is and how up for it they need to be", is how Sergio spoke about the upcoming encounter. Elsewhere, Fran Escribá pointed out that Espanyol look "more ambitious than in previous years" and that he does not believe they will "have any problems securing safety given the calibre of players they have".
