Rayo Vallecano reacquainted themselves with winning ways in the Liga BBVA after beating Villarreal 2-0 on matchday 23 of the competition. Alberto Bueno and Gaël Kakuta were the goalscorers for the Madrid outfit.
The two teams, both with attractive brands of football, played a sluggish first half. First up it was Giovani Dos Santos, who, with just Toño to beat, sent his shot wide before Licá, with two headed efforts, threatened for the Vallecas side. Despite the chances in front of goal, it remained scoreless heading into the half-time break.
It was just five minutes after the restart when Bueno, with a masterfully crafty bit of play, broke the deadlock for the home team, scoring his eighth goal of the season. Marcelino, the away side's manager, brought on Luciano Vietto in an effort to change things up, but France's Kakuta made it 2-0 after getting past the Villarreal back line to finish off a pass from the right wing. The game ended with a win for Rayo, who had lost their previous three fixtures.
