Modrić and Ronaldo lead Whites' victory at El Madrigal

Real Madrid CF defeated Villarreal CF 0-2 in one of the matchday 6 fixtures in the Liga BBVA. With this result, the Whites earned their third victory in a row in the championship and now have twelve points in the division, while the Yellows remain on eight.

The game started at a furious pace, with both teams threatening their opponents' goal. It was the home side that enjoyed the best opportunities in the early stages, with a very lively and dangerous Luciano Vietto who narrowly missed on two occasions. However, the Whites looked lethal on every attack and they managed to go in at half time with a 0-2 lead, through goals from Luka Modrić and Cristiano Ronaldo. The Croatian midfielder opened the scoring for the Whites with a great strike from outside the area, while the Portuguese forward finished a great move from Karim Benzema to become the third highest scorer in Real Madrid history with 187 goals.

The pace and intensity dropped off in the second half, when Carlo Ancelotti's team stood firm against Villarreal’s attacks and controlled the pace of the game at will. Although Marcelino García Toral brought men like Giovani Dos Santos and Javier Espinosa onto the field in an attempt to fight back, the score remained the same and the three points travelled back to the capital.
