Matchday 4 of the Liga BBVA offers fans an attractive game between two teams with distinctive brands of football and clear objectives this season. Villarreal CF and Rayo Vallecano de Madrid will lock horns in what promises to be a thrilling encounter with major implications for both teams in the early stages of the competition.
Team news
The Madrid side will look for their first victory of the season with heavy casualties in the dressing room. The latest, goalkeeper David Cobeño, will be replaced by Toño Rodríguez, one of the club's summer signings. They will also be without injured defender Antonio Amaya, as well as Javier Aquino and Jonathan Pereira, both on loan to none other than Villarreal. The Yellows, meanwhile, are without three of their key men for the clash: Ikechukwu Uche, Bojan Jokić and Giovani dos Santos.
Views from the dugout
After focusing on the UEFA Europa League, the litmus test for Marcelino García-Toral's men comes now in the Liga BBVA. "Seven out of the twelve points available would be a great boon for us" said the manager. His counterpart, Paco Jémez, the Rayo boss, is aware that his team will have to fight to earn a good result: "They can pummel you, like they did to us last season". And the manager added: "We'll have to play very well to beat them".
