Málaga CF, after suffering two defeats in the last two rounds, overcame RC Deportivo 0-1 on matchday 14 of the Liga BBVA. Through a solitary goal from Sergi Darder and a great performance by Carlos Kameni between the sticks, Javi Gracia's team moved into sixth place with 24 points pending other results. Deportivo, meanwhile, failed to climb out of the relegation zone and remain second to bottom on ten points.

The encounter started very much in favour of Deportivo, who could have taken the lead in the 12th minute from the penalty spot. However, Kameni guessed Iván Cavaleiro’s intentions and stopped the shot, before pulling off another good save when Hélder Postiga struck from inside the area. In the 21st minute, Sergi Darder made it 0-1 with a nice strike from outside the box that the Galician side were unable to keep out.

La Coruña continued to press for the equaliser after the break, but luck was not on their side. First, the post got in the way of another attempt from Cavaleiro from the ground, then Kameni was the hero again, stopping two Toché chances, one with his head and the other on a rebound that the Cameroonian goalkeeper stopped with his body. Málaga held on for a final scoreline of 0-1 and claimed three valuable points that enable them to keep their European dream alive.
