SD Eibar made it difficult for Malaga, the visitors initially leading, before goals from Juanmi and Nordin Amrabat saw the home side collect all three points.
Malaga came racing out of the blocks at the start of the match. Samu Castillejo, one of the season's revelations, cut in off the wing and crossed for Juanmi, who was a whisker away from opening the scoring. Javi Garcia's men showed good inventiveness and sought to control the game, but Eibar were well organized and didn't leave many gaps at the back. The system worked, as there were no shots on their goal in the whole of the first half, and Arruabarrena managed to make it 1-0 just before half time.
Early in the second half, Juanmi pounced on a rebound in the area to make it 1-1. The home side, spurred on by the goal, came in to the ascendancy, and a minute from the end Amrabat scored from the penalty spot to make it 2-1. The defender Raúl Navas was sent off giving away the penalty. A fifth La Liga BBVA victory in a row for Málaga, who managed to take all three points from what was a very even match.
