RC Celta and Elche CF drew 1-1 in the final fixture of matchday 25 of the Liga BBVA, a result that means the hosts have now gone five top flight games without defeat. Meanwhile, Fran Escribá’s men come away with a vital point that leaves them two above the relegation zone.
Celta came out in intense fashion in the match’s early stages, Charles providing the first warning before Elche goalkeeper Przemysław Tytoń parried a Fabián Orellana shot to prevent the ball from going into his left-hand corner. As the minutes passed, the celestes began to lose momentum as Elche adjusted to the home team’s game and ensured that the scores remained goalless at half time.
After the restart, Eduardo Berizzo’s side created more danger and began to put on their brand of neat play. The visiting keeper was again on hand to deny attacks from Charles and Michael Krohn-Dehli, before the Danish midfielder did manage to beat Tytón with another effort from Jonny’s excellent cut-back. With a lead on the scoreboard, the Vigo outfit looked comfortable and came close to grabbing a second, but with time running out the referee pointed to the spot for an Elche penalty, David Lombán converting to earn the guests a 1-1 draw.
