Abel Resino's Granada CF returned to winning ways in the Liga BBVA, and did so in style as they sealed win number 200 in the competition. Jhon Córdoba's solitary strike was the difference as the hosts beat Elche CF 1-0.
Both teams offered up a first half with plenty of football to talk about. In the first minute, Córdoba and Rubén Pérez made it clear Granada meant business, but saw their efforts deflected. Although the home side made the quicker start, the guests enjoyed some good minutes of play at Nuevo Los Cármenes. Before the break, Piti was close to breaking the deadlock as he advanced on the Elche goal, but the score remained 0-0 at the break.
The second period was in its early stages when Córdoba popped up to take advantage of a lapse from keeper Przemysław Tytoń. The strike proved to be the only goal of the game, and allowed Granada to bring an end to a negative run of 16 matches without a win in the Liga BBVA. The result means Elche drop into the relegation places and are leapfrogged by their opponents, who climb out of the drop zone.
