Atlético Madrid and Villarreal CF meet on Sunday in the Vicente Calderón, in what promises to be one of the most thrilling matches in the Liga BBVA. The Rojiblancos, with 32 points, will be looking to consolidate their third place in the table and draw level with FC Barcelona on points; the Yellows, with 24 points, will be hoping to stay in the European spots for another week.

Team news

Defender João Miranda, having recovered from a thigh injury in his left leg, is the most significant addition to the squad for the Rojiblancos. Cristian Ansaldi, with a sprained left knee, is the only absentee for the side from the capital. Villarreal, for their part, will have to make do without the injured Bojan Jokić, Mateo Musacchio, Giovani Dos Santos, Cani and Hernán Pérez.

Views from the dugout

Atlético's manager, Diego Pablo Simeone, spoke of the difficulty of the game: "We will have to play a great game against one of the teams who play the best football in Spain. They are very powerful up front". His counterpart in the Villarreal dugout, Marcelino García Toral, shared his keys for getting a good result: "We're really looking forward to the trip to the Vicente Calderón, while respecting Atlético's enormous ability. We have to be tremendously intense and we know that clinical finishing will be decisive".
