Atlético Madrid took all three points from their match with SD Eibar in matchday 21 of the Liga BBVA by killing off their hosts with three goals in the first half at the Estadio Municipal de Ipurúa, winning the game 3-1.
The intense rainfall in the Basque county posed an obstacle for the Rojiblancos but Diego Simeone's side took an early lead thanks to Antoine Griezmann, who finished off a fine pass by Raúl Garcia.
Then Mario Mandžukić scored a quick-fire double to deliver a sucker punch to the Basques, who were overpowered by their opponents in the difficult conditions and barely managed to trouble goalkeeper Miguel Ángel Moyá.
Eibar coach Gaizka Garitano gave a clear message to his players at half-time by making a triple change, taking off Mikel Arruabarrena, Jon Errasti and Manu Del Moral for Ander Capa, Javi Lara and Dejan Lekić, and the team responded well. Now looking more committed and tough, Eibar attacked more directly than in the first half but Piovacarri’s 89th minute goal arrived too late for the hosts to launch a comeback, and Atlético returned to Madrid with the three points in the bag.
