Getafe deal a blow to Granada’s hopes

Matchday 16 in LA Liga BBVA and a 1-1 draw between Granada and Getafe in the Nuevo Los Cármenes stadium. The home side went ahead in the first half, only to allow Getafe back into the match, culminating in an equalizer from Velázquez ten minutes before the end.

Granada started the strongest, controlling the game and showing far more attacking ambition than the visitors. Getafe were relying on the pace of Álvaro Vázquez and Lafita and the vision of Pablo Sarabia to do some damage. But it was Jhon Córdoba who drew first blood, steering home a shot from fellow striker El-Arabi that looked on target anyway. It remained 1-0 through until half time, though Granada did continue to build pressure.

In the second half, however, Caparrós’ men sat back, inviting Getafe ont them. In the end their keeper Oier – playing his first match of the season – succumbed to the repeated shots on goal. After Velázquez’s goal, Cosmin Contra’s side grew in to the game, and came close to securing all three points. But 1-1 it remained, leaving Granada in eighteenth in the table, with Getafe pushing up to twelfth.
