RC Deportivo and Córdoba CF played out a 1-1 on matchday 30 of the Liga BBVA in a clash between two sides with the same objective, securing safety in the division, that fought it out until the final whistle for the three points on offer. This result brings the Galicians’ points tally to 27, two points above the relegation zone. Meanwhile, Córdoba remain rock bottom with 19.
Deportivo started at full steam and had already created a clear scoring opportunity by the 4th minute, when Juan Carlos Martín was forced to send a Luis Fariña effort out for a corner. A minute later Isaac Cuenca saw his long-ranged shot whizz past the wrong side of the upright. The Andalusians got into the game bit by bit and began to threaten Fabricio’s goal. Borja García put the Canary Islander through his test in the 27', but the Depor keeper was able to get his fingertips to the midfielder’s strike.
Córdoba’s goal came when Edimar Curitiba whipped in a cross into the centre of the penalty area that Florin Andone, with two defenders either side of him, was able to control and finish off to make it 0-1 ten minutes into the second half. Deportivo went down to ten men following Luís Carlos Correia’s sending off in the 69'. Despite their numerical disadvantage, the Galicians refused to be defeatist and they were rewarded in the 87th minute when Andone scored an own goal to level matters. Fabricio saved his team’s blushes in added time by denying René Krhin in a one-on-one just before the game ended all square.
