The Liga BBVA leaders, Real Madrid, are away to SD Eibar, who are tenth with thirteen points. The last time the two sides met at the ground was in the Copa del Rey on 7 January 2004, when the Armeros and Whites drew 1-1 and the knock-out stage was decided in the return leg.

Gaizka Garitano, the Eibar manager, will be without the injured Dídac Vila and Federico Piovaccari, as well as Raúl Navas and Manuel 'Lillo' Castellano through suspension. For Madrid, Luka Modrić is unavailable and Carlo Ancelotti is still unable to call upon Jesé Rodríguez.

Gaizka Garitano appeared hopeful before the encounter: "We're not afraid. We've had to work hard to be able to play games like this and the guys have earned it." The Italian manager, Ancelotti, explained how his team must approach the game: "We have to play fast and aggressively. We have a lot of respect for Eibar and it’s a difficult place to go, but we're determined to play as well as we can."
