Elche recover to halt Villarreal

Elche and Villarreal drew 2-2 in matchday 17 of Liga BBVA. Despite the point, the home side remain rooted to the foot of the table, while the visitor's winning run came to an end and they sit in sixth.

The Martínez Valero witnessed an electric first half with four goals scored. Villarreal led 0-2 by the 17th minute thanks to goals from Luciano Vietto's and Ikechuwku Uche, but Elche did not give up and were able to get back into things before the break. Jonathan de Jesus made it 1-2, while Víctor Rodríguez equalised 10 minutes from the break.

Things calmed down after half time and both sides were happy to play things safe, with far fewer chances being created than in the opening 45. Although things got interesting towards the end, it remained 2-2 and both teams went home with a point.
