UD Almería claimed an important victory on their visit to the Riazor Stadium when they beat RC Deportivo de La Coruña 0-1. Édgar Méndez condemned the Galicians to their second defeat on the trot just before the final whistle. Almería, meanwhile, earned their second straight away win.
It was end-to-end stuff in the first half. La Coruña came out of the dressing room determined to rediscover their form in front of the home crowd, while the Andalusians were on a high after their away win at Real Sociedad. Central defender Sidnei had the best chance for the Galicians, but his shot struck the right post of Rubén’s goal. The speed of the visitors’ counter-attacks was their best weapon, but they were not clinical enough to trouble Germán Lux.
In the second half the dynamics of the game did not change and the two teams alternated on the ball. Hélder Postiga came very close to putting his team ahead just after the break, but his header found goalkeeper Rubén Martínez. Almería gradually gained ground as the minutes went by and just before the final whistle the match was decided. Rubén Martínez struck the ball from in front of the box and his shot was deflected off Laure into the back of the net, earning the visitors victory.
