The second half of the Liga BBVA season kicks off with a match between Córdoba CF and Real Madrid. Miroslav Djukić’s men are currently enjoying their best spell of form of the season, having recorded two wins and a draw from their last three encounters. Up against them this time round are the league leaders who also have the best away record in the competition, having picked up 24 points from their ten fixtures on the road so far this season.

Team news

Córdoba’s Serbian manager has named an 18-man squad for this game. Unavailable for selection are Fidel Chávez and Luis Eduardo Delgado 'Luso', through injury, Eduard Campabadal, who is suspended, Borja García, contractual reasons, and Patrick Ekeng, who is currently competing in the African Cup of Nations. Carlo Ancelotti will have to make do without Pepe and Luka Modrić. Isco Alarcón was also omitted from the list of names last minute due to an overcharged muscle.

Views from the dugouts

Carlo Ancelotti spoke about the opponents’ good run of form and how difficult an encounter this will be: "This game against Córdoba is extremely important. We are focused because the teams trailing us are doing very well. We are only thinking about Córdoba; we want to stay top". Meanwhile, Djukić talked about what his players need to do in this clash: "We have to work together. We have to be united, be aggressive, break quickly and get a hold of the ball when needed".
