Córdoba pick up their first win

Córdoba CF overcame Athletic Club 0-1 on matchday 14 of the Liga BBVA. It was the Andalusians' first victory of the season and it ends the Bilbao side’s good run of results on Iñaki Williams' debut.

The home side seemed to be dominating the game in the early stages of the encounter, but it was nothing more than a mirage. The Franjiverdes started to look comfortable and took control of possession. They pressed very deep, making it difficult for Ernesto Valverde's men to build from the back and, in the 23rd minute, they found their reward.

After a mistake by Ander Iturraspe, Nabil Ghilas recovered the ball and managed to beat goalkeeper Gorka Iraizoz, making it 0-1 and stunning the crowd at the San Mamés. Before the break, Athletic tried to threaten the opposition box, but the visitors defended well, keeping a clean sheet. The game was turned on its head after half time.

Just as the second half got underway, a shot from Markel Susaeta, fresh on the field, brushed past Juan Carlos's post - a good chance for the Bilbao side to level the match. The Rojiblancos continued to lay siege to the opposition area and Óscar De Marcos and Borja Viguera had chances, but were unsuccessful in front of goal. Eduard Campabadal and Ghilas responded, with Córdoba not prepared to let their first victory of the season slip through their hands. The Blanquiverdes managed to maintain the scoreline and claim the three points away from home.
