On matchday 12 of the competition, the Ipurua was decked out to host Real Madrid CF for the first time in the Liga BBVA and the fans were rewarded with an enjoyable match in which SD Eibar made the Whites work hard, despite the 0-4 scoreline.
The Armeros relied on their typical pacey and direct football to unsettle a Real Madrid who were met with an inspired Xabi Irureta in the opening minutes. The clearest chance for Eibar fell to Ander Capa on the edge of the box but, minutes later, the tempo picked up and James Rodríguez nodded home to put the side from the capital ahead after an individual move from Dani Carvajal and a cross from Cristiano Ronaldo.
It was the Portuguese striker who scored the second for Carlo Ancelotti's men before the break to pull away and start the second half with added confidence.
After the restart, the attitude of Gaizka Garitano's men was unchanged, and their pressure forced Madrid to abandon the system that had served them well in recent matches to concentrate on defence and rely on their more physical players.
Despite the demands of the home team, peace of mind came through the boots of Karim Benzema, who scored from a James cross when the clock read 70. The cherry on the cake came from Ronaldo, who scored from the penalty spot to seal the 0-4 scoreline and equal Hugo Sánchez as the club's top penalty scorer in the Liga BBVA.
