Deportivo secured an important 1-0 win over Athletic club to close Saturday's action in matchday 17 of Liga BBVA. Ivan Cavaleiro's goal means that the home side are now out of the relegation zone.
In an even first half, the visitors had the upper hand, with Borja Viguera going close to opening the scoring. Victor Fernández's side then grew into the game.
Álex Bergantiños, omnipresent in all that was good about his side, allowed Depor to gain the upper hand in the middle of the pitch, and this allowed forward Cavaleiro's to open the scoring.
After the break the home side were happy to let Athletic attack and press on. Valverde's men created a number of chances but were unable to take them. As time went by, Depor looked more comfortable, and were able to see out their 1-0 victory. The win sees the Galician outfit move up to 15th, just three points behind their Basque visitors.
