Rayo Vallecano make their way to the Vicente Calderón for matchday 20 of the Liga BBVA season with the complicated task of taking on Atlético Madrid, who are still well in the mix at the top of the league. The Vallecas side, who lie tenth in the table, will be full of confidence following their win over Real Sociedad (0-1) in their last league outing.

Team news

Paco Jémez will be without David Cobeño, Tito, Leo Baptistão and Emiliano Insúa (all injured), as well as Quini, who is suspended for this game. Meanwhile, Ansaldi, Cani and Diego Godín, who has an accumulation of yellow cards, will not be part of Diego Simeone’s plans this weekend.

Views from the dugouts

"It is a pleasure to play in the Calderón and a great chance for us to show that we are a very good team. We tend to be more courageous against the bigger sides. We are going to try to dominate the match and defend well. We need to set the tempo we want to play at. We can’t have Atlético controlling the tempo", declared Paco Jémez on the eve of the game.

His counterpart on the Atleti bench was also respectful of his team’s next opponents: "Rayo are a brave side and we will have to play well against them, start with intensity and put the result out of reach. Rayo are courageous and play with a lot of speed and link up well in attack. They have a clear playing style".
