FC Barcelona imposed themselves to win 2-5 against Athletic Club in one of the most exciting games of matchday 22 in the Liga BBVA. With this important win, Barcelona are now just one point off the top spot, whilst Ernesto Valverde’s side drop to 13th.
Barcelona went onto the pitch at the San Mamés with lots of intensity, playing at a breakneck pace during the entire first half. And so, following various attack into the opponent’s area, Lionel Messi managed to put his side ahead with a great free-kick. The match became frenetic following the Argentinian’s goal, Claudio Bravo prevented Aritz Aduriz from drawing level, and soon after, Luis Suárez made it 0-2 after taking advantage of a Messi pass in a counterattack. Before halftime, Aduriz hit the post with a powerful header.
The match continued at a frightening pace in the second half. It began with Mikel Rico reducing the distance for Athletic and another Barcelona goal thanks to a Messi shot that hit off Óscar De Marcos. The goal fest did not end there, and Neymar widened the lead for Luis Enrique’s men before Aduriz scored for the home side to make it 2-4. However, Xabi Etxeita’s sending off in the 75th minute was a real blow to Athletic who ended up conceding again. Following a great move, Pedro Rodríguez, finished off the scoring to leave the visitors with a 2-5 victory.
