The 2004-05 season was a turning point in the life of Quique Sánchez Flores (Madrid, 1965). A new manager was starting his first venture in the dugouts of the Liga BBVA at the helm of the recently promoted Getafe CF, who would start their time in the best league in the world under his orders. Nine and half years later, with two decades of football under his belt, the coach from the capital returns to the place he called home for one season with one clear goal: to fight for survival. LFP.es takes a look at some homecomings that accompany the winter transfer market.

In the Spanish topflight he has a record of 86 wins, 40 draws and 65 defeats.

His impressive performances during his only season in the Alfonso Pérez, when he comfortably kept the team up, with 10 more points than the last team to be relegated, were enough to earn him a spell at the club he represented as a player: Valencia CF. It only lasted a year, and his history with Getafe seemed incomplete, but he is about to pick up where he left off. "I didn't have to give it much thought, the professional and personal conditions here are unbeatable", he said during his presentation as the Azulones' new manager.

"If there is anywhere that makes me happy and where I feel comfortable, it is here"

Far from the south of Madrid, Quique made a name for himself in football. Management took him to Portugal with SL Benfica, where he won the Portuguese League Cup; to the banks of the Manzanares, to take Atlético Madrid to conquer Europe and the UEFA Europa League and a UEFA Super Cup, and to the Middle East to lend his hand to a thriving football scene, from which he returned as a champion of the United Arab Emirates Cup, with Al-Ahli.

In the Spanish topflight, the Madrid native has a record of 86 wins, 40 draws and 65 defeats, a record that he will be looking to grow during his time with the team from the capital in his search for salvation and stability. Wherever he has been, he has achieved his goals and successfully imparted his brand of football, which he began to develop with Getafe when he started his work in the dugouts of the best stadiums in Spain.

Far from the south of Madrid he made a name for himself in football.

His main motivation for this new challenge is happiness, something he revealed he is feeling after his return home: "Getafe is not the only place that makes me happy, but if there is anywhere that makes me happy and where I feel comfortable, it is here".
