Atlético consolidate in third place

Atlético Madrid saw off Real Sociedad 2-0 on matchday 30 of the Liga BBVA, thanks to a stunning start to the game that saw them hit two goals in the first ten minutes. Diego Simeone’s men move to 65 points, while the Basque outfit remain on 37.

Atleti came flying out of the traps and quickly set about putting themselves in pole position for victory. Mikel González headed into his own net from a Koke corner in the second minute of the clash, before Antoine Griezmann swiftly doubled his side’s lead. As the minutes passed La Real sought to cut the deficit, but were denied by the hosts’ defensive solidity. Koke could have settled the match before the break, but his effort hit the crossbar.

There was little change after half time as los rojiblancos dominated proceedings, keeping hold of possession through players such as Koke and Arda Turan. Despite their best efforts, the visitors lacked spark in the second period and were unable to turn the scoreline around. The result sees Atlético consolidate in third position, where they remain for another matchday.
