Atlético beat Getafe in the derby

Atlético Madrid recorded their sixth win in the Liga BBVA after beating Getafe CF in the closing game of matchday nine. A lone goal from Mario Mandžukić in the first act was enough for the Rojiblancos, who managed to end the home side's streak of three matches without a defeat.

The side managed by Diego Simeone dominated the game early on, enjoying possession of the ball and causing problems for the home defence on several occasions. Guilherme Siqueira and Antoine Griezmann enjoyed two good chances to get ahead of the Rojiblancos, but goalkeeper Vicente Guaita kept it at 0-0 with two outstanding saves. However, the visitors' efforts were rewarded shortly before the break, when the Croatian Mandžukić latched onto a loose ball in the area to make it 0-1.

Getafe were very close to equalising as the second half got underway, but Miguel Ángel Moyá demonstrated his impressive reflexes to stop as many as three shots from the home side. Then, the sending-off of Alexis Ruano created even more problems for Getafe, although Cosmin Contra's men kept trying until the end, flooding their opponent's area. In the end, 0-1 was enough and the three points made the trip back to the banks of the Manzanares.
