UD Almería and Villarreal CF drew 0-0 on matchday 27 of the Liga BBVA. It was an important point for the visitors as they were trying to keep some energy in store for the return leg of the UEFA European League, while the draw means little for the home side who enjoyed the best chances of the game.

The Andalusian side, aware of the need to get points, were well ordered from the start and faced up to a Villarreal side that was not playing at its strongest. Giovani dos Santos had the first chance of the game, but Almería reacted and tried to attack however an attentive Sergio Asenjo saved his men from conceding. Once again, Thievy tried his luck but could not get the ball into the visitor’s net. When Juan Ignacio Martínez were looking good, Mauro dos Santos took down Giovani when he was left one-on-one against the goalkeeper, and was subsequently sent off just before the break.

Despite being down to ten men in the second half, Almería upped their game and once more had the best chances although they were unable to make the most of them. Also, the Villarreal player Jaume Costa was sent off and once again things were even on the pitch at the Juegos Mediterráneos stadum. Tomer Hemed, for the home side and Denis Cheryshev, for Villarreal tired intensely in the final stages but could not find the reward. The score line did not change from 0-0 leaving the home fans with a bitter taste in their mouth after seeing how their side deserved to win the game.
