500 reasons to celebrate in the Liga BBVA

The 500-goal mark was reached in the Spanish topflight during matchday one of the second half of the Liga BBVA season. The round number came thanks to a strike by one of the division's most promising talents, Villarreal CF's Argentine Luciano Vietto. LFP.es looks back at the men behind the three-figured milestones that have already been set out during the 2014/15 league campaign.

Things got started on the inaugural matchday back in August with Málaga CF's Luis Alberto. The Andalusian made his Liga BBVA debut in 2001 with Sevilla FC but had to wait until the beginning of the current league campaign, in a match against Athletic Club, to open up his goalscoring account and open up the floodgates for this season.

The 100th goal was the work of the aforementioned Vietto who, already with a tally of nine from 19 fixtures, made sure a triple figure was achieved by matchday four (in a 4-2 victory for Villarreal over Rayo Vallecano).

A Liga BBVA and Spanish footballing legend got the 200th. Xavi Hernández, who turned 35-years-old on Sunday, found the back of the net on matchday 8 against SD Eibar, thus getting his first of the campaign. This fact is made even more remarkable given that the Catalan's first Liga BBVA goal was scored during the 1998/99 season, the year he got his start in the elite domestic division.

The 300th goal was courtesy of a player who recently signed for FC Barcelona's arch rivals. Real Madrid CF midfielder James Rodríguez got goal number 300, yet again at Eibar's expense, during los blancos’ thrashing of the Basque side in Ipurua (0-4). Oddly, for a player better known for his prowess with his left foot, this time he beat the keeper with a header.

And following the Spanish capital’s turn, we were brought back to Barcelona once again to see the 400th La Liga goal of the season. Sergio García is enjoying a fantastic campaign with RCD Espanyol and is the lifeblood of Sergio González's team.

His goals have earned a lot of points for the Catalans. His finish against Rayo on matchday 16 was goal number 400 of the current Liga BBVA campaign and one of seven he already has to his name.

Vietto, who began the season in the shadows of Giovani Dos Santos and Ikechukwu Uche at Villarreal, confirmed his excellent spell of form over the weekend by getting the 500th goal. The Argentine is sure to add more to his name during this thrilling Liga BBVA campaign which looks on course to reach the 1000-goal mark before the season closes out.
